A cheap electronic sensor automated trap for monitoring the flight activity period of moths

چکیده
Automated pheromone dispensers disrupt the mating behaviour of pest moths by releasing during their daily activity period, which is not same for all target species. These periods usually occur in or close to night time and last just a few hours, so automated sampling devices are needed characterize them. However, commercially available models do provide enough temporal resolution characterizing short diel sexual moths. Thus, we built tested relatively cheap simple high-temporal-resolution image-sensor insect trap. It consisted Raspberry Pi computer with an infrared camera operated open-source software housed plastic box. The was powered solar panel rechargeable battery that were mounted on solid weather-proof structure made materials. Pictures downloaded WiFi from Raspberry's SD card computer. Six traps baited either synthetic sex females Grapholita molesta (Busk) field. sturdy, reliable easy use, taking pictures at 10 min intervals, 24 h day over two months. confirmed previous results regarding period oriental fruit moth, will aid determining optimal operating dispensers.

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Anti-bat flight activity in sound-producing versus silent moths
The ultrasonic clicks produced by some tiger moths — all of which possess bat-detecting ears — are effective acoustic aposematic or mimetic signals, conferring protection against aerial hawking bats. Clicks are produced in response to bat echolocation calls. Palatable, silent non-tiger-moth species with bat-detecting ears fly away from distant bats and effect erratic flight maneuvers or stop fl...
متن کاملFlight energetics of sphinx moths: power input during hovering flight.
The energetic cost of hovering flight was measured in sphinx moths from five species. Mean power input per unit mass (Pi/M) varied from 237-2 W kg-1 in Manduca sexta (Subfamily:Sphinginae), mean body mass 1-2 X 10(-3) kg, to 327-9 W kg-1 in Deilephila elpenor (Subfamily: Macroglossinae) mean body mass 7-3 X 10(-4) kg. Mean Pi/M for the five species was inversely proportional to mean body mass a...
متن کاملOn the Monitoring Period for Fault-Tolerant Sensor Networks
Connectivity of a sensor network depends critically on tolerance to node failures. Nodes may fail due to several reasons, including energy exhaustion, material fatigue, environmental hazards or deliberate attacks. Although most routing algorithms for sensor networks have the ability to circumvent zones where nodes have crashed, if too many nodes fail the network may become disconnected. A sensi...
